Safari Highlights:  This is a unique safari that gives an opportunity to experience the two main species of Gorillas. The safari starts off with an owesome experience with the endangered Mountain Gorillas in the renowned Bwindi Impenetrable Park Uganda. After which we transfer you to the land of a thousand hills to expereince yet another sub-species of the Mountain Gorillas, in the beautiful landscapes of the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda. From here we proceed to the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo in a unique destination of Kahuzi-Biega a UNESCO heritage site to experience the Eastern Lowland Gorillas - only found in the DR Congo and of course Gabon and Congo Brazzaville.

Itinerary

Day 01: Kampala - Bwindi

After breakfast, our guide will drive you to South Western Uganda. On the way you may make a brief stop-over at the Equator for photos and souvenirs, and then proceed to Mbarara for lunch. We shall continue through the beautiful scenery of the terraced green hills of the “Switzerland” of Uganda, Kabale, to Bwindi National Park, the impenetrable rain forest, arriving well before sunset. Check-in dinner and overnight at the accommodation facility of your choice(Luxury or Budget).  

Day 02:  Bwindi Experience – Full Day

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is best known for being the home of the few remaining Mountain Gorillas in the world and for its rain forest that attracts spectacular species of birds such as 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics including the African Green Broadbill, and other beautiful forest species.

After breakfast you will report to the park headquarters for briefing and thereafter depart for Gorilla tracking. Take with you previously arranged packed lunch boxes, drinking water and jungle boots. Tracking some of only 720 Mountain Gorillas left in the world is perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences. The tracking may take between 4 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the Gorilla families, with a Park Guide who will interprete the flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. The Full day is dedicated to gorilla trekking as we never know where you will find the gorillas exactly. Spend the night at the accommodation facility of your choice(Luxury or Budget).

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park - Rwanda

On this day you will say goodbye to the Pearl of Africa. After breakfast you will checkout and we drive to Rwanda, passing through Katuna boarder and arriving in Ruhengeri in the evening checking in at the accommodation facility of your choice (budget or luxury); lunch en route.

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park 

After an early breakfast, you will report to the park headquarters for briefing and thereafter you are led through the forest by experienced trackers on this exhilarating Gorilla trekking expedition. During your trek you will spot other primates such as golden monkeys and a wide variety of bird life. Gorilla trekking is a strenuous activity and can take anywhere from one to eight hours, depending on Gorilla movements, however all this is rewarded when you come face-to-face with this elusive giants. And on your lucky day, you may chance to see the adults feeding, grooming as the young swing from vines in delightful playful manner. After this awesome experience, you will return to your hotel to relax and take the rest of the day at leisure. In the late afternoon you have the option of visiting the grave of Dr. Dian Fossey, one of the world’s leading female scientists who devoted her life to protecting and studying the mountain gorillas in Africa.

Day 5: Transfer to Bukavu via Kigali

After breakfast you will checkout and we shall depart for Bukavu via the Cyangungu border, arriving in the evening and checking in at the accommodation facility of your choice (budget or luxury). This journey is beautiful, with amazing landscape and interesting stopovers including lunch.

Day 6:  Lowland Gorilla trekking in Kahuzi- Biega

Wake up early and we drive to the visitors point at Kahuzi-Biega National park about 30KM from Bukavu. After briefing, the trek through the  mountainous jungle area of Kahuzi Biega National Park begins, to find the large lowland gorilla family. The species here are Eastern Lowland Gorilla, very different from the Mountain Gorillas species you have seen in Bwindi and Volcanoes National parks. And in just under three hours you will be happily enjoying the company of these rare species; observing them as they feed, groom and play with one another. After the trek we drive back to Bukavu for lunch. In the afternoon you have the option of experiencing other activities that appeals to you such as community and cultural tourism or simply take the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7: Kahuzi-Biega Experience

On this day you have the option of enjoying the park’s great variety of landscapes, waterfalls, prolific birds, primates as well as different possibilities.

You may choose to participate in a guided nature walk along the Tshibati trail. This trail leads to three magnificent waterfalls which grace this park, and offers a perfect birding opportunity. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the picturesque site, relax and then we head to the stunning high altitude cinchona and tea plantations of Mbayo. This visit will be concluded with richly brewed cup of tea at a great viewpoint. Later we return to Bukavu for dinner and overnight.

Camping At Mt Bugulumisa

Adventure lovers may choose to participate in the mini hike of Mt. Bugulumisa (2,500m) or climbing to the peak of Mt. Kahuzi (3308m), no experience required.

Again we challenge you to go all the way and enjoy a unique overnight camping experience complete with  a bush dinner as you listen to the sounds of nature at the Mt Bugulumisa with its stunning panoramic views

Day 8: Departure

This day marks the end of your safari and the airport transfer of the day shall be given to you at the time of your convenience. We hope that you have had pleasant African experience and we look forward to hosting you again!
