The Park is famous for its large elephant herds, with over 3,000 elephants concentrated in the park during the dry season. This concentration is due to the Tarangire River, which provides a reliable source of water for the animals during the dry months.

The park is part of the northern Tanzania safari circuit and is known for its mini-wildlife migration. During the dry season, thousands of animals, including wildebeests, zebras, and buffaloes, migrate to the park from the surrounding wet-season dispersal and calving areas.
